That’s what Google “renamed” itself Thursday, in observance of April Fools’ Day. Thursday, the folks at Google weren’t kidding when, to honor the Kansas capital, the company changed its online logo, just for one day, to read … Topeka.
The move was a nod to Topeka having “renamed” itself Google last month in an effort to attract the tech giant’s business. It also made a lie of our previous promise that you’d never again read the word “Topeka” in this space.

Google Officially Changes Name to "Topeka"!!! Google's Chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt announced early Thursday morning that Google has officially changed it's name honor the town formerly known as Topeka, now known as Google.
In Schmidt's statement, he writes: "We didn’t reach this decision lightly; after all, we had a fair amount of brand equity tied up in our old name... Google employees once known as “Googlers” should now be referred to as either “Topekers” or “Topekans,” depending on the result of a board meeting that’s ongoing at this hour. Whatever the outcome, the conclusion is clear: we aren’t in Google anymore. "
